Research
Evidence that helps schools make better decisions.
Educational research is most useful to schools when it helps leaders and teachers make better decisions. This hub brings together practitioner inquiry, evidence reviews, diagnostic thinking and developing studies connected with school transformation.
Different types of knowledge should be identified clearly. Published evidence, school-based observation, practitioner experience, survey findings and informed interpretation are not the same thing.
Research Priorities
- School leadership effectiveness and decision-making
- Teacher development, observation and professional learning
- Student engagement, assessment and learning quality
- School culture, staff morale and teacher retention
- Parent trust, communication and expectations
- Curriculum implementation and international education
- AI, EdTech and digital transformation
- School growth, enrollment and institutional sustainability
Practitioner Research
Schools generate valuable evidence every day through student work, assessment data, observation records, attendance, parent feedback, teacher reflection and operational patterns. Practitioner research can help schools examine that evidence more carefully instead of relying only on assumption.
For example, a school concerned about weak homework completion might examine whether the real issue is task quality, workload, student understanding, family routines or inconsistent teacher expectations. The purpose of inquiry is to improve the quality of the question before rushing to a solution.
Evidence Reviews
Where a topic is well researched, this site can summarise what stronger evidence appears to suggest and where uncertainty remains. Evidence should not be used selectively to confirm a preferred position. When findings are mixed or context-dependent, that should be stated.
Developing Research Programmes
The Annual State of School Transformation Report is being developed as a recurring practitioner-research programme. It will publish methodology and limitations alongside findings when sufficient evidence is available.
The School Transformation Index provides a maturity-based diagnostic structure across eight domains for school self-review and improvement planning rather than public ranking. The Case Studies library will document verified examples of improvement work.
Research Ethics and Transparency
Claims should match the strength of the evidence available. Data involving schools, staff, parents or students should be handled responsibly and anonymised where appropriate. Methodology, limitations and conflicts of interest should be stated where relevant.
