Student Arrival and Dispersal SOP for Schools: Safety Checklist and Template

A student arrival and dispersal SOP should make every handover predictable, traceable and safe. It is especially important for younger students, school transport users and schools managing last-minute pickup changes.

Arrival and dispersal SOP

Phase Required control Responsible role

Non-negotiables

  • No student should be placed in an incorrect class, bus or route because of assumption.
  • Identity and authorisation checks should match age and risk.
  • One accountable owner should control last-minute transport/pickup changes.
  • No child should be left unsupervised during transition.
  • Emergency contacts and escalation numbers should remain current.

This SOP should be adapted to local safeguarding requirements, transport systems and school infrastructure.
