School Transformation Academy

Professional Learning for School Improvement

The School Transformation Academy is the professional learning arm of the wider School Transformation Institute. Its purpose is to organise practical learning pathways for school leaders, middle leaders and teachers around the capabilities required for sustainable school improvement.

The Academy is not designed around one-off motivational sessions. Its focus is on professional capability that can be applied in real schools.

Learning Pathways

School Leadership

Instructional leadership, decision-making, accountability, governance relationships, difficult conversations, school culture and strategic planning.

Teacher Development

Lesson planning, questioning, differentiation, assessment, feedback, engagement, classroom routines and reflective practice.

AI & Digital Leadership

AI policy, academic integrity, EdTech evaluation, data privacy, teacher use of AI and responsible student use.

Middle Leadership

Classroom observation, feedback, moderation, team leadership, academic review, coaching and translating priorities into action.

School Transformation Teams

Diagnosis, priority setting, implementation planning, progress review and change management for teams working on institutional improvement.

How the Academy Should Work

Professional learning is strongest when it combines explanation, examples, practice, reflection and follow-up. Academy programmes are intended to connect learning with application rather than end with attendance.

  • Short focused masterclasses
  • Structured professional-learning programmes
  • Leadership cohorts and mentoring
  • School-based workshops
  • Diagnostic-led development plans
  • Resource packs and implementation tools

Evidence Before Certification

The Academy should not become a certificate factory. Completion should represent meaningful participation and, where appropriate, evidence of application. Any future formal certification or accreditation should be described only when such arrangements actually exist.

For Schools

Schools can use Academy pathways as part of an annual professional-development strategy or connect them to priorities identified through the School Transformation Self-Assessment and Teacher Development Needs Diagnostic.

For Individual Leaders

Individual leaders can begin with the Principal Leadership Self-Assessment and use the results to identify areas for focused development or mentoring.
